arachnid tarantula store
Tarantula Spider Help!!!!!?

I work at a pet store and we have a sick Tarantula. In the absence of our regular reptile/arachnid specialist another employee had given some crickets and caught one of his legs in the lid of the holding tank. We found him and got him out (he is very mean) he uses that leg rarely but doesn’t drag it around and he was weeping from one joint. Then another employee had put way to many crickets in there and it caused ALL of his joints to leak….

If anyone can help us with any information as to why all of his joints wud have started to leak and anything we may be able to do this would be great.

Kindest Regards

If the guy shut the lid on his leg, and that leg is bleeding, he busted the tarantula’s exoskeleton. Hopefully the tarantula at this point will tear the leg off. The basal leg joint, called the coxa, is able to seal it’s self off in the event of a lost limb.

Best thing to do is to remove those crickets, keep it in a dark, quiet area, and leave the poor thing alone. The more you disturb the tarantula the more stressed it will be, and the closer it will be to death.

However, if it is leaking from all it’s joints like you said, then it will probably die.

I recommend getting “The Tarantula Keeper’s Guide” by Stanley A. Schultz, Marguerite J. Schultz, it’s a must for tarantula keepers. A cheaper, smaller book that will still give good advice is “Tarantulas and Other Arachnids” by Samuel D. Marshall. These are the two best books on tarantula care. I have seen far too many stores mistreat tarantulas, and give very wrong information on how to take care of them.

So Many Poems!?

Itsy Bitsy Spider

Tiny little spider
Your life dwindles on your web.
How doth you spend your days?
A meaningless arachnid…
Forever you catch the flies.
Let us count the ways.
You set the trap.
And they stare into your eyes.
A dead and empty gaze.
A meaningless arachnid…
Forever you catch the flies.
Let us count the ways…

More creepy poetry!!!! :D
